Now that you’re all caught up, lets dive right into Tips 8-10
Fleet Tip #8 Improve fleet safety
Older fleets have fewer safety features and are more prone to breakdowns than newer fleet. Effective fleet management enables the procurement of newer vehicles with better safety features which reduces accidents, injuries, and liability.
Have advances in safety practices, equipment, training passed you by? As technology advances and we are armed with more data than ever before, we business owners are armed with information to help us protect not only our selves and our staff, but our equipment and assets.
Fleet Tip #9 Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
New vehicle fuel efficiency is improving each year. Effective fleet management that focuses on modernization can reduce emissions and lower total costs of ownership.
I hear you, you may not operate vehicles so greenhouse gasemissions don’t apply to you… or do they? How efficient is your supply chain? Are you offloading/outsourcing parts of your manufacturing process? What does THEIR footprint look like? While we’re on the subject, how does OUR footprint look like? Is our website green? Are we utilizing our tools in the most efficient manner? There are numerous ways to be ‘green’, whether we manage fleets or not.
Fleet Tip #10 Promote energy independence
Well-run fleets promote energy independence by reducing idling, reducing speeding, and adopting domestically-produced alternative fuels.
Very similar to reducing green house emissions (tip 9), promoting energy independence can take shape in numerous ways. While there may be local and federal financial incentives for being ‘green’, benefits can manifest themselves in lower operating costs (reducing electricity usage, lowering oil/gas consumption) and overall lower operating expenses.
